The Story Behind My First Book
My journey as a children's author began with love, faith, and a desire to preserve Semaj's incredible legacy. I was born and raised in the Oklahoma City area and have always carried my country roots with me. Life eventually led me to the city, where my husband and I welcomed Semaj into our family. In August 2018, she officially became part of the Grant family, and over the years she touched countless lives with her peaceful spirit, contagious smile, and unwavering joy.
Inspired by the way she embraced life and encouraged others simply by being herself, I wrote
I'm Different and Proud of It. This story celebrates individuality and reminds young readers that their differences are something to appreciate, not hide. My hope is that every child who reads it will feel empowered to be confident, compassionate, and proud of who they are.
